Put the source to work.
Find the airport you mean before you map a route or compare traffic. The reference helps you check the code, name, and coordinates behind a transport record.
Why it matters
A route or airport measure needs the correct place. Accurate airport identity and geography help prevent the wrong location from receiving a value.
Are you looking at the right airport?
Imagine a meeting invitation names an airport code you do not know. A location reference helps you find the airport and nearby places. Getting the identity right comes before comparing access. A map point helps you orient yourself; it does not confirm that a flight or freight service operates today.
This lookup supports maps and connections between traffic tables and airport records. The BTS traffic guide explains the trend data, and city facts help locate the destination. You still need current schedules, transfer times, and service details for a travel plan.
Three steps you can take
- Confirm the airport code, name, and coordinates against the source.
- Check the destination city and ground-transfer needs with your host.
- Use a verified geographic link before assigning an airport to a county or other statistical area.
Read the source: Bureau of Transportation Statistics: transport data. This reference explains the source or research context; the inventory figures below come from the reviewed NDS package.
Know what you are looking at.

- 9,057
- Needed subset with recovered coordinates
- 447 of 447
- Populated county codes in template

Use these figures to understand the package reviewed on October 20, 2026. The results section below tells you which comparisons you can explore here and which still need source work. A source guide is different from a complete table of published observations.
How to use the evidence
Use verified airport identifiers and coordinates for maps.
Complete and validate county associations before treating the county template as an operational join.
Available results and rankings
- Country transportation sections now publish airport infrastructure context from 9,057 mapped records across 237 country codes, with 31 country-unmatched records kept separate.
- Searchable airport names, codes, recorded types, and locations are connected in the Places & Business country pages.
- The port-link reference adds 836 port codes, 9,995 distinct port pairs, and 169 geographies beside the airport context.
Coverage and limits
- The table of ranked missing airports prioritizes lookup repairs. It does not rank airport quality or business opportunity.
- The county template has no populated county codes.
